The Shakopee School Board is planning to reduce the hours of employees who are working in community education and food service and approved a stipend for the reduction for coaches and extracurricular advisers during a board meeting on April 13, SW News Media reported.
The stipend and plan will go into effect if the schools are still closed after May 1, according to the news agency. The school district currently projects it will sustain a loss of $800,000 in discretionary revenue because of the closure of the facilities and cancelation of activities due to the novel coronavirus.
“The plan is a response in recognition of the fact current State funding does not include any money to cover revenue shortfalls in fee-based programs," a memo from the school district stated, the news agency reported. "The hard reality is we do not have the fee-based revenue stream coming into the district to pay for programs that are not in full operation."
