Chaska City - MN issued the following announcement on Sep. 17.
When you’re walking around your neighborhood, have you seen storm drains clogged with leaves?
Well, you might not know that rain washes anything on streets and other paved surfaces into storm drains, which then flow into lakes, rivers, ponds, and wetlands.
How can you help? You can adopt a drain! Adopt a Drain is a volunteer opportunity that only takes 15 minutes and helps clean lakes and rivers.
While leaves and grass clippings are natural, they are high in nutrients which cause algae blooms if in a water body. Other debris like fertilizer, road salt, and pet waste all becomes pollution when they hit the water.
