Glencoe-Silver Lake School District secures second spot in student Reading test participation in 2021-22 school year

Glencoe-Silver Lake School District ranked second in the McLeod County for test participation, with 725 students taking the Reading portion of the Minnesota Comprehensive Assessment and the Minnesota Test of Academic Skills in the 2021-22 school year, according to the Minnesota Department of Education.

The number of Glencoe-Silver Lake School District students taking the tests in the 2021-22 school year fell by 2.3% from the previous year.

Glencoe-Silver Lake School District's students achieved an average Reading proficiency rate of 49% in 2021-22 school year.

10th-grade students stood out with 15% of them exceeding standards in Reading, which was the highest recorded proficiency at the district.

On the other hand, eighth grade students had the most room for improvement, with 47% not meeting the expected standards.

Glencoe-Silver Lake School District encompasses schools within McLeod County and has a main office in Glencoe.

Minnesota students take the MCA annually (or the MTAS, for students with cognitive disabilities) to determine their academic readiness. Not every grade is tested each year.

Analysis from the Nation’s Report Card showed Math and Reading scores have fallen significantly in the last decade. Science scores have been steady in recent years.

Minnesota Department of Education issues could lead to data irregularities.
