Representative Dawn Gillman (R-Dassel) has responded to a recent decision by the Minnesota Supreme Court, which clarified that the Minnesota Human Rights Act prohibits public accommodations from excluding individuals based on transgender status. This ruling effectively removes sex-based distinctions in girls’ and women’s sports across the state.

Gillman, who represents House District 17A, has been active in supporting policies aimed at maintaining separate categories for girls’ and women’s athletics. She referenced her support for House File 12 earlier this legislative session, a bill designed to specify that participation in female sports is reserved for biological females. According to Gillman, this measure was intended to uphold Title IX.

"Fairness in girls’ sports is worth fighting for," said Representative Gillman in her statement regarding the court's decision.

The ruling comes amid ongoing debates about how state laws interact with federal protections under Title IX and what these mean for participation criteria in school and community sports programs.
