High school students eligible for Pandemic Unemployment Assistance (PUA) will start to see checks soon now that a court order and court instructions clarified the process.
Students who already applied do not need to repeat the process, the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development (DEED) reported on its website.
“We are moving as quickly as possible to issue those retroactive PUA payments and encourage any high school student whose job has been impacted by COVID-19 to apply at http://www.uimn.org, immediately,” DEED Commissioner Steve Grove said.
Payment authorization started Dec. 11, but it may take several days to be seen in bank accounts.
Students can make applications after Saturday, Dec. 26, the U.S. Department of Labor said, DEED reported. The state agency asks students to apply immediately.
“We will continue coordinating with DEED to ensure every eligible high school student receives the benefits of which they are entitled,” Marcus Pope, vice president of Youthprise, told DEED.
