City Of Victoria issued the following announcement on Jun. 24.
The Minnesota Department of Agriculture confirmed that there is an emerald ash borer outbreak in Victoria. Ash trees are at risk of infestation as emerald ash borer larvae tunnel and cut off key nutrients needed to run through the tree.
There are several characteristics to help identify ash trees in your yard.
-Bark on older ash trees is diamond-shaped while smooth on younger ash trees
-Branches and buds grow directly across from each other
-Leaves are compound with 5-11 leaflets
-Seeds are dry, oar-shaped and grow in clusters
If you have an ash tree or multiple ash trees, you can take preventative measures to treat trees in advance of a potential infestation. A discount for treatment through a City program is available. Learn more at www.ci.victoria.mn.us/eab.
