CHASKA CITY -MN: We're back with another post about utility bills

Bills

Chaska City -Mn issued the following announcement on Aug. 27.

Hi again, everyone. We're back with another post about utility bills. Based on some of the feedback from our post a few days ago, we wanted to provide a little more information.

In our previous post, we touched on the energy adjustment charge and how there are factors like rising fuel prices that impact the cost of producing and providing energy. These factors exist across the country and beyond, so higher utility bills are not just happening in Chaska. Utility companies that service our neighboring communities are also experiencing similiar situations.

We also mentioned that Minnesota Municipal Power Agency (MMPA) is our energy provider. We are one of 12 communities across the state that make up MMPA. MMPA does a lot work to provide competivitely-priced power to us. In fact, the wholesale rates we get from MMPA have been about 10% lower than Xcel the past few months. We are definitely still feeling the impact of those outside factors like fuel, but the MMPA is doing its best to make sure our community receives reliable electricity at a comparablely lower rate than surrounding communities.

Now, one more note on usage. The usage you see on your bill comes from an actual reading of your electric meter. The meter either electronically sends the reading or one of our electric department lineman come out to manually read it. Those meter readings typically take place during the first week of the month. If you take a look at your meter then, it should be pretty close to what your bill will have.

As always, if you have questions about your bill, we encourage you to call our Utility Billing Department at 952-448-9200. They are available Monday-Friday 8am-4:30pm. They always try their best to help our utility customers better understand what's on their bill. We really appreciate the high level of customer service they provide, and we hope you do to!
