Dawn Gillman, the Minnesota State Representative for District 17A, addressed constituents at the start of the new legislative session. She thanked community members for their support and said she is honored to represent them in Saint Paul.
Gillman noted a recent shift in the Minnesota House after a residency violation led to Democrats losing one seat. This change gave Republicans a narrow majority of 67-66. According to Gillman, "Following a residency violation, the Democrats lost one seat, which has given Republicans a narrow majority of 67-66. Unfortunately, instead of working with us to ensure the best outcomes for Minnesota families, the Democrats have made it clear that they’re unwilling to cooperate with the newly formed Republican majority. They’ve decided to refuse to participate in the legislative process, despite still collecting their paychecks. This kind of behavior is deeply disappointing and undermines the trust Minnesotans place in their elected officials."
She added that House Republicans are prepared to work on behalf of Minnesotans: "Although this situation is frustrating, I want to assure you that House Republicans are here, ready to work for you. The good news is, that the Democratic trifecta is officially over. No longer will one party have unchecked control. We are ready to bring transparency, accountability, and common-sense solutions back to the Capitol, and I am committed to ensuring that your voice is heard every step of the way."
Gillman encouraged constituents to share their concerns or ideas with her office by phone or email and welcomed opportunities for meetings in Saint Paul.
She concluded by stating her commitment: "While the road ahead may be uncertain, know that I am dedicated to standing up for you and working with my colleagues to deliver results for Minnesota. Together, we will continue to build a state that reflects our shared values: fiscal responsibility, personal freedom, and transparency in government."
