Minnesota State Representative Dawn Gillman has started her second term representing District 17A in the Minnesota House of Representatives. In a recent statement, Gillman expressed her commitment to advocating for the interests and priorities of her constituents.
Gillman criticized members of the Democratic Party in the Minnesota House for what she described as an "illegitimate, secret swearing-in ceremony" held on January 12. She said, "Let me be clear: the people of Minnesota deserve leaders who are honest, dedicated, and accountable; that is why I am deeply disturbed by the recent actions of my Democrat colleagues. In the evening hours of January 12, House Democrats held an illegitimate, secret swearing-in ceremony—an unprecedented and unacceptable move that completely undermines the democratic process and disrespects the hardworking voters elected them to serve. To make matters worse, these same members have refused to show up for work, yet they continue to collect taxpayer-funded paychecks."
She further stated, "This behavior is not only disrespectful to you, the voters, but it is a complete disregard of the responsibility we hold as elected officials. It is dishonorable and unacceptable, and I will not stand by and let it go unchallenged."
Gillman emphasized her support for fellow Republican legislators. "I stand with the 66 Republican members who swore an oath to you, the people of Minnesota, to show up, to work, and to serve with integrity every single day; and I will never back down from that commitment."
She also reiterated her stance on public service: "Minnesotans derserve leaders who will work for them, not take their taxpayer dollars for granted. You deserve representatives who will fight for your interests, protect your values, and show up to do the hard work that comes with serving our state."
Gillman invited constituents to share their concerns or ideas about issues affecting District 17A and Minnesota.
